Ella & Dan’s, Barns and Yard Wedding
We share the wedding of Ella & Dan who got married at Barns and Yard, Hanley Hall, and had their day captured beautifully by The Last of the Light.
About the Day
I absolutely loved being a part of this lovely wedding back in August 2019. Right from the off, I felt really relaxed with the couple, Dan & Ella, helped by the fact we had a pre-wedding photoshoot prior to the wedding date. This wedding had it all with its homely DIY feel thanks to some amazing suppliers (food, drinks, DJ, flowers etc) which all really complemented the amazing new venue Barns and yard, Hanley Hall.
Ella and Dan are super laid back and very easy to get along with. I had the pleasure of first meeting up with them for a pre-wedding shoot they booked with me ahead of the big day. We all hit it off from the get go which held us in good stead for the big day.
About the Photographer
I’m Darren, a wedding photographer based in the West Midlands but shoot weddings right across the UK, occasionally into Europe. I have been doing this job which I love for around 8 years now, where I have worked with some incredible people, many who are now my friends.
How would you describe your photography style?
I would describe myself as a documentary-style photographer, striving to catch natural moments with as little input as possible. I do however step in when needed to influence couple portrait and of course the traditional family group shots.
What did you love about the day?
The venue and seeing the lovely couple again were the main two elements I couldn’t wait for and they did not disappoint. Barns and Yard, Hanley Hall had literally just opened its doors, although you would never have known as the staff knew exactly what they were doing and how to ensure the day flowed flawlessly. The couple, as I expected, took the day in their stride, soaking it all in and from what I could tell, having an amazing time with friends and family.
What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding day?
Photography wise, choose a photographer based on their personality, we spend a long time together so make sure you know you will have fun together. Also, look at the style in which photographers edit their images and choose a style you like for now and for in years to come when you look back over your images.
