WhiteLady House Wedding in Lydford, Devon

We feature this lovely WhiteLady House Wedding in Lydford, Devon that was captured by Anthony Lyons of Special Day Wedding Photos.

It was lovely to meet the couple who both live and work in Lincolnshire, and really wanted to get married down here in Devon. They were looking for a relaxed natural approach without too much contrivance. They loved my work and decided I was the photographer for them, which was great! They had picked a beautiful location down on the edge of Dartmoor, right next to Lydford gorge. Whilst it was a bit of a journey for them from Lincolnshire, it was a little longer for Lea’s family who had travelled all the way from Germany.

The wedding went really well and took place at the WhiteLady House in Lydford, Devon. There was an English ‘country cottage’ theme to the wedding with a big nudge towards vintage retro. We were a little worried that the morning drizzle would not lift, but the weather just improved as the day progressed. There were a lot of homemade elements to the day such as the headdress flowers and the cake. The ceremony took place outside on the lawn next to a large beach tree, in front of their family and friends. The ceremony was conducted by Humanist celebrant Zena Birch with a lot of the beautiful words supplied by the couple. The readings by the couple’s parents were also touching. Another lovely moment during the ceremony was the procession of the rings where the guests blessed the rings with happy thoughts and wishes to the sounds of ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’. I have photographed only a few humanist weddings, so it’s always nice to capture something a little different.

As the day progressed the weather improved and the guests relaxed with Croquet & Jenga on the lawn. They also enjoyed afternoon tea and a little dancing. It was a very enjoyable wedding with my day of photography finishing with the first dance. All in all, one of my favourite weddings of the year.

About The Photographer

My name is Anthony Lyons and I own and run my wedding photography business Special Day Wedding Photos. I shoot mainly wedding but also do the odd portrait session. I live in North Devon and absolutely love the diversity of venues and shooting locations here, as well as being very close to the beach. When I can I also love to do street photography, usually in Exeter which is where I studied photography and first started exploring street portraits. I really enjoy that contact and buzz you get when photographing complete strangers. I get the same buzz when photographing weddings and in a way it is the reason why I started wedding photography.
Style

I keep my photography style as natural as possible. I try to create images from a spectator’s point of view and in an unobtrusive manner. My main aim is to create a narrative of the day so I am constantly on the lookout for characters to help build the emotion and give depth to the story. I also like to take time out with the couple and create some natural portraits. I try not to overly complicate the session and keep it as simple as possible.

What did I love about the day?

I enjoyed the whole day from start to finish. The couple, family & friends were all very relaxed and friendly and made me feel very welcome. They all seemed to fit in so well with the theme of the day. When I was contacted by the props supplier, Cybel’s Vintage Hire, at a later date I was a little surprised as I thought it all belonged to the couple. In a way it burst the bubble! Naivety on my side I think!
