This collection is all about the dress. It took time to find, it was quick to choose, and it will make everyone go wow, so make sure you have some elegant wedding dress photos on your special day.

Helen’s Dress

Photo by Mick Cookson Photography – This was taken at 30 James Street Hotel in Liverpool. Helen’s dress was hanging up in a room of it’s own. I thought I’d avoid the obvious and make the dress small in frame, using a wide angle lens, a door and some light spill in the foreground.

The Last of the Light

The Spinning Bride

Photo by S.R.Urwin Wedding Photography/Steve Urwin – Elle had chosen a very full wedding dress, Her wedding breakfast was at the exclusive 5-star Westminster hotel, St Ermins. The hotel’s entrance and facade of the building are imposing and I wanted shots of the bride and groom in the reception courtyard. When I came to shoot Elle on her own, I asked her to do a 360 degree spin. Her dress opened out and as she twirled back towards the camera lens she threw her head back and laughed. It was very dark outside so I was pleased with how I had lit the dress as well as getting the action shot.

A moment of reflection

Simplicity at its best

Photo by Sally Rawlins Photography – Jazz’s wedding dress was absolutely perfect in its simplicity, and it looked epic hung up in the bridal suite at the venue. She’d opted for a mermaid-style dress by Pronovias, plain yet completely elegant, which accentuated her Ariana Grande-style long dark hair, which she wore down.
When I hung the dress simply next to the mirror and dressing table, the cool grey decor helped make it look incredible. This is one of my favourite shots from bridal prep, it’s a calming image and set the tone for the collection.

The Red Door

Photo by Pure Photo N.I – Our bride and bridesmaid’s for this hotel wedding had stayed at the hotel the night before so they could get ready for the day ahead. The hotel room was a little cramped so we grabbed the brides dress and headed for one of our favourite spots in the grounds around the hotel.

Timeless

Photo by capture every moment – The Bridal suite at Dumbleton Hall had a beautiful window, which looked like the perfect place to hang the wedding dress. The bride “Ellen” was more than happy to go along with our suggestion and we love the picture just as much as she does!

Flower Dress

The Florist “Tiger by the Tail” was busy preparing all of the flowers in the barn for the wedding of Chris & Emma. We saw the opportunity to hang the dress in the door way amongst the flowers, so we quickly arranged the dress and a few tweeks to the flowers and the shot was taken.

The Elegant During The Chaos

Photo by ER Photography – As documentary photographers we don’t as a rule pose the dress, we always give brides a little heads up before the wedding day arrives on how to keep bridal prep looking as pretty as possible.

Claire couldn’t have hung her dress up in a prettier location, here wedding was in a real Castle so it was definitely a princess moment. The light from the window was particularly amazing and during the chaos of bridal prep, the dress stayed majestic in all its wonderful elegant glory and was an amazing backdrop for the bridal prep photos.

Whiter Shade of Pale

Photo by Eye of the Tyne Photography – Following the wedding breakfast I took Robyn and Steven out to do some more couple shots. Unfortunately it had clouded over and the sky was really flat and boring. I had noticed Robyn and a huge train on her dress and her veil was also really long too. I got them to stand on a bank next to the venue, so that they just had the flat white sky behind them. I then got the bridesmaid’s to hold up Robyn’s dress and veil on either side of the couple. I then shot this image slightly over exposed so that the dress and veil almost disappear into the white sky.

Be my dress

Photo by Atken Photography – I shot this within the stunning stately home of Sledmere House in East Yorkshire. Sledmere is a Georgian House – and it is also an Edwardian House. The house is very charming has a great local history and adorned with beautiful architecture. It was perfect with the lighting directly from above and I just knew when I captured this that it had to be in Black and White.

Cathedral Veil

Photo by Jason Williams Photography – To be honest, cathedral veils are a pain. They can fill up an entire room, require constant attention and are hell on the neck muscles in a high wind. Then again, with a little patience, they can yield some lovely results, either accidental, or posed. This shot took me a while as the symmetry was eluding me. But we got there in the end. Despite being basically a street photographer, I do like this image for its almost devotional art quality and simplicity. It’s not something I would usually do but, well, cathedral veils…..got to do something with them!.

Dress with Movement

They didn’t notice me lining my shot up using the beautiful natural light from those huge windows. I just love the texture, movement, how natural it is as Jess didn’t notice me, and of course that light!

Aria and The Dress
