Wedding on the Beautiful island of Majorca

We feature this stunning wedding of Florin & Carly on the beautiful island of Majorca. Their special day was captured by Mark Douglas.

My name is Mark Douglas, I’m 37 & I’m a full time professional wedding photographer, based in N.Ireland, but travelling all over. I’ve shot weddings in some beautiful countries, my top 3 places would be Majorca , the Cornish coast of england & Seville.

My style is very relaxed & good fun. I think making sure the couple is as relaxed as possible during the day is very important, not just for getting great natural photos, but to make sure they actually enjoy the day & take it all in.

Weddings days can go very fast indeed.

I also think that my style is slightly different from most photographers, because I have never actually studied photography. I took an interest in photography when I was on my volunteering trip to Eat Africa in Sept & Oct 2008, then when I arrived back home, I taught myself by using YouTube, and as such, I think it’s helped me develop my own style & way of working.

About the wedding:

Florin & Carly have to be one of the most relaxed & easy-going couples I have ever met. Their wedding on the beautiful island of Majorca was so much fun, from the very start.

The day of the wedding (Monday 16th Oct 2017) was a hot one, we couldn’t have asked for a better day. The girls were getting ready at a lovely villa in Can Picafort & the guys were getting ready at the Hotel Iberostar Albufera Playa. There were no signs of any nerves & both of them were enjoying the day as it was unfolding. The cermenony was held in the gardens at a beautiful location (Cases de Son Sant Marti).

As the seats filled up, it was nearly time for the bride to make her entrance along the long flower covered pergola. After the ceremony, the groom danced the whole way down the aisle (see photos) & the DJ started playing some chilled dance music over the grounds & everyone mingled & had a blast.

As with all of my destination weddings, I offer the couple a sunset photo session the following day. This set of photos was to be the icing on the cake, as they were up for getting into the sea in their dress & suit. To get the shots we were looking, I had to get into the water too, which was thankfully still warm for October. We got some great above/below photos with the GoPro.

What I loved about the wedding day, was that the whole thing was so relaxed & the couple were lost in each other that their fun nature reflected onto the guests & everyone had a great time.

What advice would I give to couples planning their wedding day?

Something that I suggest to couples, is, if they aren’t superstitious, they should think about doing a first look. This is becomiing more & more popular. It’s where the bride & groom meet up before the ceremony & it’s also a great time to get the bride & groom portraits done, as well as the family photos, this then will free up time in the afternoon to get chatting to guests or even go to a 2nd location for more photos. Mainly I would say, when the day comes around, try not to control the day too much, let it unfold & relax & have fun.
