Tara & James’s Wedding in the Sussex Market Town of Arundel

Tara and James’s wedding in the Sussex market town of Arundel was a beautifully intimate affair captured by Neil Walker Photography. They wanted to keep it small with just the closest of friends and family. After a charming ceremony in the town hall, they had a gorgeous meal at a local restaurant in a 19th century townhouse. All in all a lovely day and so easy to get beautiful photographs.

The couple

Tara and James live abroad but came back to the UK to get married in Arundel in autumn 2015. Meeting them ahead of their wedding to go through the timings was lovely, we had a great time walking around Arundel thinking up ideas for what I would shoot on the day.

A little bit about the day and how it went

It was a lovely intimate wedding in Arundel, a great picturesque setting, and the day was touching and relaxed, with a lot of laughter.

I’ve never had a wedding day start in a dress shop before, but it made for a very relaxed beginning to the day with the experts on hand to lace Tara into her beautiful dress! I got some great shots of her getting ready and she was sorted so quickly there was even time for a glass of prosecco and more shots using the great light upstairs in the shop. Tara and her dad then walked the short distance to Arundel Town Hall for the ceremony, and I got some lovely shots of the two of them chatting as they made their way there.

After the ceremony and some time toasting the happy couple out on Arundel Town Hall roof terrace, the wedding party walked through the town to Arundel House Restaurant where the celebration meal was held. We also took the chance to go down to the river to take some shots of Tara and James, giving them the chance to spend some time together and me the opportunity to get some beautiful shots of the two of them in lovely surroundings.

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I work throughout South East, UK and abroad, but I’m primarily a Sussex wedding photographer. I moved into weddings 9 years ago, after shooting advertising and corporate photography since I was 20. I love shooting weddings so it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

How would you describe your photography style?

Relaxed, natural, documentary style photography, I love to shoot in the background capturing all the most intimate and emotional moments from the day.

What did you love about the day?

There were only 11 people at Tara and James’s wedding so it felt like I was one of the guests. That alone meant I was able to get some very emotional and intimate shots of the ceremony and the celebrations after, as Tara and James’s friends and family celebrated their day.

What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding day?

Don’t compromise or scrimp on good quality photography – you’re going to have these images forever and they’re of one of the most important day of your lives!

Choose a wedding photographer whose style is right for you and who you feel comfortable with. In wedding photography you really do get what you pay for.

From the Couple

‘Thank you so much for the photos they are wonderful! Just perfect – exactly what we were hoping for and more! Thank you once again for everything, it was a pleasure having you there on the day and taking such amazing photos!’ – Tara
