Real Wedding at the Monastery in Gorton

Today we feature a real wedding at the Monastery in Gorton, in Manchester. The Wedding of Rachael and Dene was captured by ER Photography.

About the couple

Rachael and Dene got engaged in Barcelona at a beach restaurant whilst sipping on cocktails, seems like the perfect moment to us. After our initial meeting we really wanted to shoot their wedding as we just clicked straight away. It’s really important for us to click with a couple as it helps us get the best out of them.

A little bit about the day and how it went

The Monastery in Gorton, Manchester is one of those venues that makes you go WOW when you walk in so Rachael’s entrance to the great hall was breathtaking, she looked amazing as she swooped down the long aisle to meet Dene. The day started with bridal preparations and Rachael got ready at her mums. The ceremony and reception were all at the Monastery so it was a very relaxed day with everything being in one place.

Do tell us a little bit about yourself

We are Jo + Jon and we teamed up 6 years ago and joined forces and we’ve not looked back. We are both pretty laid back so that’s probably why wedding photography seemed to fit us as we don’t stress the small stuff and can easily fit into someone’s day. Jo has 3 dogs so loves long walks out with the clan and Jon loves fixing things up and finding out how things work.

How would you describe your photography style?

Our photography style is documentary and we try not to do much posing, we love to call it placement (we find the scene and place the couple in it and the rest happens naturally) it’s a made up word we’ve found explains some of the more posed shots you might see on our website. These are not posed just placed in the right frame. We love capturing real moments as we feel those reflex the day, when looking at a photo you should be drawing on memories and if it’s something real you are looking at it can stir up more emotions and memories.

What did you love about the day?

We loved everything about the day, even the weather and that’s saying something for the UK. We hit it off with Rachael & Dene straight away so it was always going to be an awesome wedding, we believe building a relationship with our couples is key to delivering a fantastic service.

What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding day?

  • Just relax and don’t stress the small stuff.
  • Always plan for rain and if it doesn’t rain then…bonus.
  • Remember it’s your day and you should have exactly what you want.
  • Always meet your photographers at least twice before the big day so that nothing is awkward on the day and they have a full understanding of what you want.
