A Beautiful Portugal Vineyard Wedding

Today I can’t wait to share this stunning wedding at a lovely Portugal Vineyard which was captured by college friend and professional wedding photographer Ed Thompson.

I’d known Ben since college where we studied together from 2000-2003 in Kent photography. A talented photographer, he had been short-listed for numerous photo awards including the prestigious Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize. Having both freelanced for a few years we had many mutual friends, many of whom were also photographers.

When he asked me to photograph HIS wedding I felt honoured but I also knew I was going to be in for an interesting day as I’d be covering a wedding with some of the world’s top photographers present as guests! No Pressure 😉

I guess you know you’re good when another photographer asks you to be their wedding photographer!

It was a beautiful summer day in Portugal, the wedding was held in the working farm and vineyard of Quinta Sant´Ana. A gorgeous venue, it really was a storybook location and an amazing backdrop for my reportage photography.

I’ve published photo-essays and worked on assignment for some of the world’s leading magazines including: National Geographic Magazine, CNN, BBC and The Guardian Weekend Magazine. From this experience I bring a very narrative and natural approach to wedding photography, it’s something I’ve done for over a decade and I feel completely comfortable doing. On returning to the U.K I found he had written a testimonial for my website:

‘We are very grateful for having had Ed as our wedding photographer. As he does in his powerful documentary work, he used his uncanny talent to capture the unexpected, often quirky moments. As photographers, we appreciate how he combines great compositions and light with natural moments and often humour. It is probably also his extensive experience and passion for documentary photography giving his wedding photography the feel of a photo-essay.’ Ben & Karin.

They have two lovely little children and live in Norway now, so I don’t get to see Ben much apart from the odd Skype chat. That’s one of the reasons why I have their portrait on the front page of my website. I guess that’s why photography is so amazing, it invigorates our memories and emotions.

Ed Thompson is a Master Documentary Photographer (MA Photojournalism & Documentary Photography, LCC) you can see more of his wedding photography at: www.lovethatweddingphotographer.co.uk
