Beautiful Bournemouth Beach Wedding

We head off to the beach for the lovely wedding of Cath and Nick in Bournemouth, their special beach wedding was captured by IanH Photography.

The couple
Cath and Nick wanted a relaxed, informal wedding day that they could enjoy with family and friends – that’s why they chose the delightful Dorset wedding venue of Beach Weddings Bournemouth, the only place in the country where you can hold the legal ceremony on the beach.

The big day
When I arrived on the beach in the morning the sun was blazing down out an azure blue sky, little fluffy white clouds skipping across pieces of cotton-wool. The wedding marquee looked stunning on the pristine sand. Petals lined the aisle, and starfish pew-ends and vintage bunting decorated the chairs. Beautiful flowers from Arcade Flowers decorated the driftwood wedding-arch. Cath arrived with her daughter and her Father on the cliff-top, the sun reflecting off the sea below. They took in the terrific views across Poole Bay as they rode in the cliff-lift down to the beach. There were smiles all around as Cath walked down the aisle. It was a beautiful day, filled with fun and laughter. A drinks reception on the beach was followed by the wedding breakfast in the marquee. Their cake was delightful – Nick’s a fireman and they had two wedding cakes, one was a fire engine which had a ladder reaching up to the top of the second cake, where Nick was rescuing Cath – absolutely brilliant! After the reception I took them away from their guests for some romantic photos down at the water’s edge.

The Photographer
I’m a full time, wedding photographer covering the South of England. With over 20 years of experience I know how trends and fads come and go – just like fashions and hairstyles! That’s why I believe the wedding photography should be as timeless as possible. Too many young photographers are keen to follow the latest styles, not realising that in just a few years’ time they’ll appear dated. Wedding photographs are meant to be looked back on and treasured in years to come. As I say to my clients, I’m not “just” a wedding photographer – I’m the story-teller who weaves elements of their day into a lasting record.

My style’s primarily photo-journalistic, capturing the emotions of the day. I believe that this should be done discreetly, being as unobtrusive as possible so that the couple enjoy their day to the maximum. However, I bring a creative twist to the coverage as well if clients want it, creating artistic portraits.

What did you love about the day?
I love everything about weddings, they’re so full of emotion. Each is unique and brings back special memories when I think about them. One stand-out moment from Cath and Nick’s day was during the Groom’s speech – as he started to talk, Cath’s two children ran up to him and threw their arms around him. Such a special, tender moment in a day full of love and happiness.
