About Rik Pennington

London wedding photographer

I’ve been photographing weddings for over 10 years and in that time I’ve been all over the UK, Europe and as far as New Zealand. My wedding photography is mostly documentary in style with the emphasis on capturing unique moments as creatively as I can. I aim to capture moments that will be cherished and create lasting memories.

As a documentary wedding photographer one of the best compliments I hear is that couples don’t notice me on the day and that’s the way I like it! I don’t get in the way or tell anyone what to do, but quietly go about my business, working hard to get the best images I can.

As well as shooting in a documentary style, I also enjoy shooting couple portraits and will discuss this with you so we work together to get the pictures you want. I’ll always recommend heading out about an hour before sunset to take advantage of the best light during the summer, but other than that we can spend as little or as long as you like on this part of the photography. Before the wedding I often hear that couples are quite anxious about their couple shoot, but my experience on the day is quite the opposite. I often hear how enjoyable it is to have some quiet time together after the excitement of the morning and the ceremony and that it’s a much more enjoyable experience than anticipated. So my advice would be to relax and let your photographer do the work!

I often get asked if I shoot family group shots and of course the answer is yes. I believe a few carefully selected groups are an important document to have, but it’s best not to do too many as you’ll have better things to do on the day!

My usual coverage is from getting ready through to dancing so I can tell the complete story of the day.

How would you describe your style?

A mixture of documentary photography with fine art couple portraits. I constantly look for interesting, creative or dramatic light to give my images my trademark look.

What do you love about weddings?

I love the places that weddings take me to and the people I meet. Working in a welcoming environment and being able to do what I want is such a privilege. I enjoy observing people and capturing them in all their glory! I'm also very humbled by the feedback I receive and to hear how much the photographs mean and the memories they create.

What advice would you give to couples looking for their perfect wedding photographer?

Ask to see a full gallery so you know exactly what you're going to get.

What's your travel policy?

I love travelling for weddings, nowhere is too far!
