If you want something different and just can’t find that perfect wedding venue then how about a tipi! We chat to Jodie at Sami Tipi and get the low down and the need to know when it comes to tipi weddings.

How did it all start and where did the love of the tipi come from?
Sami Tipi is a family run business, being owned by myself Jodie and husband Craig. We spent 5 years out in the Middle East with our young family and it was time to head back to the UK. All we knew at this point was that we wanted to come back and start something!! We took out a piece of blank paper and started to brainstorm where we wanted to be in 20 years’ time and started to work back from there. Ultimately we wanted to create a venue space that was unique and memorable. After looking around at different options, we finally came across the tipis and actually saw them at a sporting event in Dubai, instantly we knew this is what we wanted to do and work with. And from there, our story began.

What sort of weddings do you get hired for?
All of our weddings are unique, every couple has their own views on how they want their day to look and feel, but ultimately they want something a little more relaxed. We still have many traditional touches such as top tables and wedding speeches, but these traditions are always used with a modern twist that is more in keeping with the couple’s beliefs and style.

What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding?

Enjoy every moment of it. You can spend between 6 months and 2 years planning this day, enjoy the preparation for your day.

There are lots of wedding fayres and showcases, take some time to go to these with the important people in your day and get inspired by them.

What makes a tipi wedding so fun and special?
There really are no rules with a tipi wedding, the day is there to be carved out how you feel your day should look and feel. The tipis really are magical and the atmosphere in the tipis is without question amazing and something that you have to experience to fully understand. The tipi space feels like two venue spaces from the day to the night, once the fairy lights take over the space really feels very magical and creates the perfect ambiance to dance the night away.

What packages do you offer?
Every wedding is bespoke, that’s how we treat what we offer. We consider what you need from the tipis, and plan accordingly, giving everyone their own bespoke package.

How can couples go about hiring you?

Do you have any advice or tips for planning a tipi wedding?
The biggest advice I can give you is to attend an open event and bring along the parents. It is often the parents that wonder what you are doing when you tell them that you are getting married in a field in a tipi!! Once they have seen it, they too will understand your decision. Getting to know each couple and being a part of their day is a real privilege and helping them bring their ideas to life is always good fun.
