We are delighted to feature the lovely wedding of Jen and Andy who got married at Shireburn Arms, their special day was captured by Karen Julia.
Jen met Andy when he took a job where she worked… they bumped in to each other on the same train home one night and realised they lived around the corner to each other. They became good friends, chatting led to flirting, and then to a first date. The first date was at Greens in Didsbury. Jen couldn’t stop smiling because, despite being veggie, she had never heard of it! They moved in together 6 months later and the rest is history.
Jen & Andy found me at the Event City wedding fair. I briefly chatted to Jen, and her wedding at the Shireburn Arms sounded fabulous! Jen told me they were planning a relaxed day in the countryside with great food, great views, and close friends and family. Jen & Andy loved the soft lighting and natural look of my photos and booked the evening of the show. On the day, Jen had arranged a Stig-a-like for Andy as a surprise so I was really looking forward to creating a more dramatic feel for these photos. The wedding day was a relaxed affair and the weather was glorious, so guests got to enjoy the drinks reception in the sunshine.
About Karen Julia:
I’m originally from Glasgow, but moved to Manchester in 2007 to settle in this part of the country. I love Manchester, there’s a huge selection of fabulous cafes and restaurants, and I love finding new ‘office’ locations to work from with my MacBookPro. I love freshly ground coffee and proper chocolate. I really love my job as a wedding photographer and feel privileged to get to work with so many amazing couples and their families. Capturing beautiful moments, fleeting connections between people, is what makes my day. Jen & Andy were really happy that my unobtrusive approach captured the essence of their day and their love for each other.
My style is a fusion of timeless, classic group photos with an informal feel, combined with natural unobtrusive documentary coverage that captures moments as they happen. I love using the available light to create beautiful portraits, and also enjoy adding a bit of drama with creative lighting. I spend time getting to know every couple, so my approach is very much tailored to each individual couple to fit their preferences and the venue and lighting situation on the day.
What did you love about the day?
It’s hard to narrow down… the Stig stayed in character the whole time, so that was great fun… the ceremony was just beautiful the couple read their own vows to each other and the front row of guests had just about held it together up until that point, but that was the final straw and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room after that!
