This weekend we feature a gorgeous autumn wedding, Holly & Khalid got married in October at the impressive Muddiford Court Hotel in Devon. The day was captured by local wedding photographer Anthony Lyons, who owns and runs Special Day Wedding Photos.
The Big Day
Holly & Khalid’s wedding was held on an autumnal October day with an overcast sky just outside Tiverton at the lovely Muddiford Court Hotel in Devon. It is not often that I get to shoot a wedding so close to home so I was pleased to take the booking. I had met Holly earlier in the year but did not meet Khalid or see the venue until a day before the wedding. It’s not how the process usually happens. The couple were very easy to get on with and proved to be a pleasure to photograph. It is always nice to photograph a wedding where nobody is overly concerned and aware of the photographer. This proved to be one such wedding with lots of emotion and laughter throughout the day. The couple’s wedding had a laid back feel with cottage/retro theme. The ceremony was lovely with lots of emotion. After the ceremony we did a handful of group-shots near the duck pond. We had a lucky moment when the sun came out for about two minutes and we managed to get a lovely shot on the jetty. The speeches were also very emotional and funny and all went very well. Before the couple cut the cake and did their first dance the couple, along with the guests chilled out in the various buildings, drinking and being merry. By the time of the first-dance the party was in full swing and looked to be a lot of fun.
My name is Anthony Lyons and I own and run my wedding photography business Special Day Wedding Photos. I shoot mainly wedding but also do the odd portrait session. I live in Tiverton, Devon and absolutely love the diversity of venues and shooting locations here. When I can I also love to do street photography, usually in Exeter which is where I studied photography and first started exploring street portraits. I really enjoy that contact and buzz you get when photographing complete strangers. I get the same buzz when photographing weddings and in a way it is the reason why I started wedding photography.
I keep my photography style as natural as possible. I try to create images from a spectator’s point of view and in an unobtrusive manner. My main aim is to create a narrative of the day so I am constantly on the lookout for characters to help build the emotion and give depth to the story. I also like to take time out with the couple and create some natural portraits. I try not to overly complicate the session and keep it as simple as possible.
