World Class Unposed Documentary Wedding Photography

I spent a long time learning about light, about people and about story-telling. It’s not easy, telling a story with pictures. Sure, anyone with a camera can take some photographs during your wedding day. But you need someone who knows how to capture the way that your partner looks at you, who always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Someone who has the experience to really end up with with a beautiful, artistic document that says:

“This is us! This is how we got married. These are our loved ones. And this is what our wedding day felt like!”

My journey here
That started in Cardiff where I was studying Physics. I discovered the student newspaper, Gair Rhydd, where I met the beautiful Helen (who I eventually married!). For some reason I preferred getting into Oasis gigs for free with a camera than learning about the polarisation states of photons.

I continued to study Documentary Photography at Cardiff School of Journalism before starting work at The Times as a photojournalist. From 1998 until 2015 I was at the forefront of the world’s news events, photographing news, features and people across the UK and the rest of the world, including conflicts, fashion, royalty and celebrities. As a photojournalist, documentary wedding photography is a natural fit for me. It’s also an ideal approach for a couple who want their wedding day documented in an accurate, beautiful and hassle-free way.

Plus I get to spend more time with Helen and my wonderful children, Dominic and Maddy.

How would you describe your style?

I use a background in news photojournalism to make compelling stories at weddings. My photography is about the characters and relationships that surround a couple on their wedding day. You won't see the same poses, or clichéd pictures in my photography, because every single couple and every wedding is different, and the pictures that tell their story are different.

What do you love about weddings?

I'm interested in people and relationships, and finding beauty in those things. Then using photography to convey that to the viewer. It isn't important that it's at a wedding - there's beauty all around us. It just so happens that I do this at weddings!
