Beautiful Photography from Ian
Hi, I’m Ian and I’m a professional wedding and portrait photographer based in the Cotswold market town of Dursley in Gloucestershire.
Over the years I’ve come to appreciate that being a wedding photographer is a job neither for the complacent nor the timid. I’ve also learnt that what really sets you apart is how you are with people and how you make them feel: get it right and the smiles and laughter are natural, expressions real in fact I always joke with my clients that although I press the buttons, they make the pictures! Making people feel comfortable and happy while I snap away really is at the heart of what I do and I never forget that being chosen to photograph your wedding is an honour that carries a tremendous responsibility.
From experience, I also know that memorable wedding pictures don’t take themselves which is why I’ll happily meet you beforehand, once, twice, more if necessary, to help settle those nerves and provide reassurance so that on your wedding day you are completely relaxed, look fantastic and have an absolute ball. You’ll also receive unique and beautiful photographs that will give pleasure for many years to come.
Working at many of the beautiful Cotswold wedding venues, I love to incorporate the landscape in my photography as much as possible. Many of my clients comment on this aspect of my work and my 'Big Picture' shots have come to define my style. That's not to say I'm not a detail person too in fact many of my favourite shots are at the other end of the spectrum: those wonderful fly-on-the-wall moments that come and go in a flash so you'll often see me hovering with a long lens just waiting for these little gems to come along. Ultimately though, my approach is simply to provide a wholly natural representation of your wedding day with as little orchestration as possible.
I'm a big lover of the speeches! You never quite know what is coming your way and capturing the reactions of the guests is often as entertaining as the speeches themselves. I did once witness a groom's speech lasting one and a half hours - he'd had one or two loosener's beforehand and came out with a few jaw dropping anecdotes that included past relationships (just don't go there...) but was also incredibly funny at the same time! It was a real roller coaster ride....
Get a feel for how good an organiser your wedding photographer will be at your wedding! Make no mistake, apart from being a thoroughly nice chap or chappess and being able to take the type of pictures you love, your photographer must also be able to keep a clear head and be able to work under pressure with whatever curve balls will be coming their way and weddings always have curve balls! One of the most testing times is organising the group shots: there is usually limited time for these, lots of them to get through and people scattered all over the place. How will he/she organise this in order to ensure there is plenty of time left for the all important bride and groom shots?
