This was a destination wedding that took place in Ocho Rios Jamaica. Mike and Sara had about 40 of their closest friends and family fly out there for it. Everyone spent a few days before the wedding exploring the island, and relaxing, so when the wedding happened everyone was pretty comfortable with one another and the day just flowed.
Mike and Sara are a southern California couple. Both the bride and group have quite extended families who they are very close with. On the day of the wedding you could feel that familial pride coming out of everyone. Their group of friends is also quite a close knit group, and you could tell that everyone just wanted to contribute and come together to make sure the day went just as Mike and Sara had imagined it. On the wedding day, there was a bit of concern that rain might change the plans a bit. But the rain held off and the ceremony was beautiful down on the beach. There was rain much later in the evening during the reception, but by that time everyone was under cover and it added a nice ambiance to the dancing that was happening. My favourite part of the day was the reception, particularly the dancing. I loved feeling the energy of everyone’s excitement and getting involved to get some great shots of it all.
I am based just outside of the New Forest in Southampton. My style is very narrative as well as being quite natural. I take a dynamic approach when it comes to photographing weddings. I help my couples plan their day and advise them to make sure that there is time in the schedule and I can get the photos they want. I will blend into the background during the ceremony and reception times and get the more candid shots, however I always like to make sure we set time aside so I can get the bride and groom by themselves for more intimate portraits.
