Nick and Ellie’s Greece Engagement Shoot
I’m delighted to share this lovely engagement shoot in the beautiful country of Greece. Nick and Ellie were captured by Nick Rutter Photography.
Nick and Ellie are such a lovely couple and are so much in love. They are both very well educated, studying masters, PHDs and all sorts plus jet setting around the world to research, often spending months apart which proves their love and commitment to each other no end. it’s been a pleasure to get to know them and I get to shoot not one but, two weddings. Their Astypalea Greece (official) wedding and their English Celebration Wedding at Sacred Heart Church in Bournemouth and their reception at the beautiful Italian Villa surrounded by the Compton Acres Estate Gardens.
The day and how it went
Their Engagement Shoot was the start of their Greece Official Wedding and English Wedding Celebration. We knew we wouldn’t get time to visit all the locations I had in mind and they had in mind on their wedding day (the next day) so we decided to have the afternoon together starting with lunch and running through the timings of the day and to make our way up to Chora Castle through the traditional, twisting and turning narrow white streets. I was so glad we did, as there were so many small paths to get up to the old castle ruins you would never find it otherwise!
We found various spots along the way and back down the hill into Chora town and then down to the harbour bay. It was such a great opportunity to get them used to the camera and how I work, plus show off the beautiful island and to set the scene for their beautiful wedding the next day.
I’m now in my 7th year as a professional wedding photographer, based in Bournemouth though cover Dorset, Hampshire and throughout the country as well as destination weddings and destination Engagement Shoots.
Engagement Shoots are a huge part of my work as I base my business on friendship and rapport. Without it, it’s a very different experience and service and it makes sure that my couples are relaxed, understand what I do, why I do it and their trust and confidence in me is boosted come the big day. I often find an engagement shoot far more creative than the wedding day, and purely because of the lack of time you generally get at a wedding to create something awesome. It’s of course achievable, but with an engagement shoot, you can literally do anything and go anywhere. Engagement Photography and the fact that I never cover the same location twice, means that it gives me and my work an additional USP and gives my clients something bespoke and unique to them, telling their story. Engagement shoots means I get to travel and go across the UK and sometimes to different countries.
How would you describe your photography style?
Natural, relaxed, punchy colours with a slight film effect,
What did you love about the day?
To start with, they are the most appreciative couple and genuinely decent people. So it was a pleasure to spend time with Nick and Ellie as it’s a huge part of what I do. We were on a small Island off of Greece, we loved it all and getting to see the island and to be creative with the traditional Greek elements of the surroundings.
