I love what I do. It’s simple – when I say that my photography comes from my heart to yours, I mean it.
I was humbled with the honour of being Scottish Field Magazine’s featured Wedding Photographer of the year between 2012 and 2015 and I’m now ranked as one of the Top 100 Wedding Photographers in the UK.
As grateful as I am for any and all accolades along the way, my focus is really on the people at the heart of what I’m doing though. The relationships, the families, the friends, the pets, the weather, the atmosphere – it’s all where my energy goes on every shoot and, partially, what I believe makes my work stand out.
My style is natural, candid and creative at the forefront. I believe in the magic that comes from the wonderful spontaneity of fun, affectionate couples who cherish the moment as it unfolds. Simple, no-fuss-planning goes in beforehand, on my part, to ensure all names are noted and all areas are covered so that, by the time the day itself arrives, all you have to do is relax and enjoy.
I believe that your photography should be an integral part of the enjoyment of your wedding day, without taking anything away from the most sacred elements like your ceremony, mixing with your guests and dancing the night away. I aim to ensure that it fits in beautifully and seamlessly and in a way that you cherish, not only at the time but forever after.
Lastly, I believe in love and I’m dedicated to capturing the beauty of it in my work.
How would you describe your style?
My style is creative and candid, photographic story-telling with a hint of romantic portraiture. I work mainly with natural light and am a Fine Art Photographer. Your final images will tell the story of your day from the tiniest detail to the biggest group shot and all the love and laughter in between.
What do you love about weddings?
They're unique and emotion-fuelled, romantic, peaceful and exciting. They have tears and love and laughter and champagne (all the best things in life!). What's not to love about weddings?
There's nothing more wonderful than witnessing Dad's first look, Groom's first glance and all the tiny details in between and those lovely quiet moments during the couple shoot when a bride and groom get to have a little second together to take it all in.
It's real, as is all my work. I don't stage or set up, it's all the real magic of the moment and I love every minute of it.
Advice for couples planning their wedding?
Pick someone who's photographs consistently make you feel good. If you're smiling, wanting to see more, read more, know more, then there's a very high chance they'll be the one for you. It's okay to be excited about your photography, pick someone who's photographs make your heart flutter because it says a lot about the type of person they are.
It's important to feel at ease with your photographer, we're with you for a large chunk of your day, so selecting someone who's work clicks with you is a way of ensuring you're likely to feel at ease.
So much of who we are comes through in our work. What you see in a photographers' images says a lot about who they are and what they see. When you hire them, you're hiring more than just their camera, you're hiring their perspective, their creative eye and a little piece of what they love and see in the world.
If you look at their images and feel that je ne sais quoi then you're on to a winner. Your photography should be fun, relaxed and easy, a seamless part of your wonderful day and a romantic set of visual memories to look back on in years to come. Choose wisely and go with your heart.
