The Wedding of Gemma & Richie at Haslebury Mill

We are delighted to share the lovely wedding of Gemma & Richie at Haslebury Mill in Somerset captured by Rob Grimes on 31st January 2015.

Do tell us about the couple?
I got to know Richie or should I say Captain Millar from my time in the Armed Forces, so we had a connection from the beginning. So for me, knowing the groom beforehand and also knowledge of his regiments traditions made the day run smooth. Once the wedding was all booked and the date confirmed, it was a chance to get to know more about Gemma, so we chatted over Skype and discussed all the details and finer plans & ideas for their special day.

Apart from being perfect for each, being asked to capture not only a military wedding, but also someone you know, made for a great day with extra meaning.

Please tell us a little bit about the day and how it went?
The day started early for me, as I joined the groom and his friends, as a save parlour, where they were all relaxing and being groomed of the day ahead before heading back to the reception location of Haslebury Mill where the groom was to dress and prepare himself for the wedding. The ceremony was just over 30 mins away in a small village and it was just one of those days, apart from being a cold January day, where the light was divine. So from a photographers point of view, you couldn’t have asked for anything better. After the ceremony, we all headed back to Haselbury Mill and we stayed there for the reminder of the evening, capturing the final elements of the wedding into the late evening.

Do tell us a little bit about yourself?
Ah I am but just plain old me, nothing more and nothing less.

I would say my style of photography is about 90% documentary with a fine art WOW approach to the couple portraits using creative lighting techniques.

What did you love about the day?
Each military wedding has its own style and because of the history and traditions that come with each regiment makes for a special day, and boy do those Army guys know how to party into the early hours which allows for some brilliant after party images.
