Today we feature the lovely and elegant wedding day of Rachel and Ryan who tied the knot at the Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews. Their special day was captured by Picturesque, by Mr and Mrs M.
As soon as we met Rachel and Ryan we knew we wanted to work with them. We all got on so well and had such a good rapport that we knew our working relationship would go very well. We first met them in a little cafe in Perth where we showed them our work over some coffees and discussed what they were looking for in their photography. One of the main things they said was that they didn’t like anything too posed and wanted the photographs to be very informal and candid, which was perfect for us as that’s our preferred working method. We knew they would be fantastic in front of the camera as Ryan has modelling experience and Rachel is stunning. Our next meeting with them was at their engagement shoot, we all braved the rain and wind to get some beautiful photographs for them just a couple of weeks before the big day.
Rachel and Ryan got married on 29 December 2014 at the Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews. When we asked them why they went for a winter wedding Rachel replied that you are never guaranteed the weather in summer anyway so by booking a winter wedding you know it’s going to be cold and to expect bad weather. Luckily the wedding day came around with blue skies and some winter sun, although because St Andrews is so open it was extremely windy and cold! We can offer something unique being male and female photographers in that we can photograph both the bride and groom preparations – all too often the groom is forgotten and it’s all about the bride! It is nice to be able to document his morning too. The day was fantastic and although there were a few mishaps along the way (the best man forgot his shoes and had to get a replacement pair from concierge!) everybody had an amazing day. Ryan’s mum surprised Rachel with a wedding car, which hadn’t been planned as the day was taking place all at the same venue, and she loved having some time to herself with her dad before the ceremony. The Fairmont is a stunning venue; Rachel got her princess entrance as she made her way down the grand staircase, the grounds made for some beautiful photos and the decadence of the huge Christmas trees really set the feel of their winter wedding.
We are in our thirties, we’ve been married for 12 years, and we have three beautiful children. We live in Falkirk, Central Scotland but also have connections to Aberdeenshire and make regular visits up that way.
About Our Photography:
Our photography started out as a hobby and the desire for some beautiful family photographs as our kids grow up. Eventually family and friends started asking us to photograph things for them and they were so pleased with the outcome that they encouraged us to start our business. We are only coming up to our 2nd anniversary in business but have been astounded by the support from our clients, and the bookings keep coming in. We like to think we are offering a fresh pair of eyes on an industry which it seems can get stuck in it’s ways. We feel we can offer a unique service as a married couple, both photographers, both giving our perspective on the day.
What Did You Love About The Day?
What we loved about Rachel and Ryan’s day was how fun it was! Despite the elegant setting, everyone was very relaxed and really enjoyed themselves. The highlight for us was being driven by Rachel on a golf buggy to the Club House on St Andrews golf course for their bridal portraits. We got some confused stares from the onlookers we passed!
