Suzy & Michelle’s Bournemouth Beach Wedding

We love a beach wedding and are so excited to share the wedding of Suzy and Michelle who got married down on the gorgeous Bournemouth beach, their day was captured by Amy Scaife of Love & Adventures.

Bournemouth Beach Wedding

In March 2014, history was made in the UK as marriage between same sex couples became lawful. Three months later, Suzy and Michelle joyfully exercised their legal rights and there wasn’t a dry eye in the marquee. The day began with the brides and their close friends gathering in a nearby hotel to do each others hair and makeup. Guests arrived as the sun burned off the lingering haze, kicking off shoes and filling the wonderful, light filled marquee (by Beach Weddings Bournemouth, lovingly decorated by brides’ friends). Suzy and Michelle walked hand in hand together along the seafront, gathering their nerves in the funicular, cheered on by smiling and clapping strangers. Hands still tightly held as they walked together up the aisle, in the eyes and embrace of their families and loved ones.

Beautiful, heart-felt vows were exchanged, then back down the aisle again, this time as wife and wife to the perfect chorus of American Authors ‘Best Day of My Life’. I have to admit I had a massive lump in my throat and maybe a bit of sand in my eye. Then onto the beach for celebratory champagne, ice cream and laughs. What struck me the most about this wedding is how they both kept looking at each other, their faces beaming with uncontained joy.

Being there to witness and narrate the beautiful, honest stories of couples such as Suzy and Michelle is such a privilege and a job that I love. My career as a wedding photographer quietly grew in the background while I was busily beavering away, assisting fantastic photographers and establishing my own commercial and editorial career. One day I turned around and realised that those weekend, for-friend-of-a-friend gigs had matured into something that gave me real joy, job satisfaction and creative freedom.

I guess you could describe my style as creative, clear-eyed and warm-hearted documentation. I love a good story and the good telling of one, with an experienced eye for the sweet moments, the light, atmosphere and all those unique details that make the day special to you.
