Interview: Jess Petrie
We showcase hundreds of top wedding photographers and love to find out more about them, today we chat to Jess Petrie, a Yorkshire based Wedding Photographer who just loves what she does.
Hi Jess, so first off, how long have you been photographing weddings for and how did you get into it?
I’ve been photographing weddings for around 12 years now. When studying for my degree in photography I was approached by a film wedding photographer, he was looking for an assistant, and the rest is history as they say.
What do you particularly like about photographing weddings?
I like the adventure of a wedding as every wedding is so different and unique, with a whole mix of different personalities and heaps of fun. And I get to travel to places I wouldn’t normally go to.
How would you describe your style and approach?
I approach weddings in a discreet and unassuming manner, which allows me to capture the raw emotions and events as the day organically unfolds. This gives me the most natural photographic results without the need of any scene setting or awkward posing.
I would describe my style as creative, natural, and timeless.
What advice would you give to couples looking for a wedding photographer?
Choose a great photographer because your wedding photographs are the most important reminder of your day, long after everything has gone. Your wedding photographs are your memories captured, your visual inheritance, for generations to come (speaking as a bride and photographer).
What tips would you share with couples to help their day go more smoothly?
Try to relax, and if things don’t quite go to plan that’s fine, don’t stress. The wedding day itself goes so quickly so try and enjoy every second, it’s your day.
Finally… Whats the best moment you’ve had as a wedding photographer?
Just doing what I love to do and creating visual memories for people in love, it’s the best thing ever! Plus travelling to beautiful locations, Lake Como is one of my favourites to date.
