DIY wedding at Great Higham Farm in Kent

We love  a DIY wedding and love this wedding of Steve and Amy set at Great Higham Farm in Kent and captured by Olly Knight.

Steve and Amy are a lovely and relaxed couple. Amy works as a wedding photographer herself so the photography was an important part of the day for them both. They had a DIY wedding set in the woods at Great Higham Farm in Kent with thirty of their nearest and dearest. Steve’s Dad led through the ceremony in the woods. There was Mexican street food for lunch and the swimming pool was open in the afternoon. I even went in the pool with my camera which was risky considering it isn’t waterproof! We went for a stroll across the fields just as the sun set and then just as I thought the day couldn’t go any better Steve and Amy had their first dance under the stars and fairy lights! It was beautiful.

The Photographer

I work as a documentary wedding photographer in Kent although I cover the UK and take on a couple of destination weddings each year. I live in Canterbury with my Wife Kirsty and my Children Caleb and Rose. My photography style is really about capturing the atmosphere of a wedding day and the genuine emotions of the Bride, Groom and their friends and family without posing people or getting people to smile at the camera. I love nothing more than getting a photo of a brilliant moment that was completely unplanned.

What I really loved about Steve and Amy’s day was it’s unique feel. I’ve never been to a wedding that’s been so relaxed! I’ve never been to a wedding where there’s been tennis and swimming. It was all down to their vision for their wedding and I loved it. My biggest piece of advice to couples getting married is not to try and conform to other people’s expectations of what your wedding should be like. You’ll only get one go at planning your wedding so make it fun, make it creative and make it a day that both of you will really enjoy! Do remember as well that you’ll be hopefully spending the rest of your lives together so although your wedding day will need planning and a lot of thought put even more effort investing in your relationship with each other.
