The wedding industry is a busy and competitive market and the same can also be said when it comes to wedding photography, there is a huge choice, different styles, different prices and packages, and different people. So once you have decided on a style and your budget you will be able to narrow down who you would shortlist to capture your wedding day. Assuming you love their work, they match what you are looking for and they have a package  that suits what you have in mind how do you know you’ve found your perfect wedding photographer?

1 – You feel at ease

An often over looked part of hiring a wedding photographer is how you feel around them, you can love there work and they can be the best photographer in the world, however if you just can’t feel relaxed around them then it will show in your photos. When meeting up and chatting with photographer you want to feel relaxed and and at ease, just like you were chatting to your best friend over coffee. If you are just not feeling it then get in touch with someone else, if you are feeling like you are saying good bye to a friend when you leave and felt like you could chat all day and night to them about your wedding, then that is pretty good sign they could be the one to capture your wedding day.

2 – You Trust them

You are spending a large amount of your budget on photography so you want to trust the person who is in charge of capturing all those special moments, you don’t want to be worrying about what they are doing or have or haven’t done, you want to trust them and let them do the job they have years of experience in. You want to go away with a positive feeling and no doubts. As before you want to feel at ease with them but go with your gut, if you don’t feel right then get in touch with someone else. Your photographer should answer any question you have and be able to put your mind at rest, even better they should have already answered most questions you may have just in a vernal chat, if they ask if you have any questions and you struggle to think of anything that hasn’t been covered then that is a great sign.

3 – They share your passion

You have been planning your wedding and all those little details, you are excited and can’t wait, telling all your friends, family and even the lovely lady at the bus stop. The wedding industry is a creative and passionate industry, if you feel the excitement, passion and love from your photographer for your wedding day then this is a perfect sign. Sharing your ideas and asking for their input is another great way to see if I dare say it, ‘click’. You want to chat away with them and feel like they are part of the day, they will have seen a lot of different things and a lot of deferent wedding styles so tap into their wedding inspiration.

4 – You would recommend them

That’s right, even before they have take a shot you may want to recommend to your other friends who are also getting married, you have come away with no doubts about their work and how good they are that you would tell your friends about them. This is a great sign of trust and a sure way to tell you are happy with them.

5 – You are looking forward to them being there

If you come away feeling excited and looking forward to them capturing your day then it is safe to say you have found your perfect wedding photographer. Yes they are there to do a job, but if you feel at ease, they feel at ease, it makes it so much more fun, everyone is relaxed and it makes for wonderful wedding photos, they end up feeling more like a guest which allows for lots of beautiful moments to be captured.

Bonus 6 – Go with your gut

As simple as it sounds, go with your gut, if you feel relaxed and at ease then so will your gut, if you have the slightest of doubts, or something is bugging you, then get in touch with them or meet up with them again to put that doubt at ease.

  1. So true! Especially #1 & 2. It always baffles me when couples book a photographer without even meeting them!
